Table of Contents
You can build a multilingual website with Portfoliobox using a creative and organised approach. This guide walks you through the process using two languages, English and French, as an example.
👉 See a live example here: https://specimen.portfoliobox.net/multilingualwebsite-en.
For this setup, you won’t use your portfolio's default menu. Instead, you’ll hide the menu on each page and create custom menus for each language.
Step 1 - Create all your pages in one language
Create your pages in one language, English, in this example. All the text content should be in English: titles, texts, URL, SEO titles, and SEO descriptions. For all pages, hide the menu: click on Edit menu and choose Hide the menu on this page.
Step 2 - Create all your pages in the other language
An easy way to get this done is to use an existing page as a template and edit the page content.Â
Duplicate the page
- Click on Create.
- Click on Use an Existing Page as Template, under Reuse a Page.
- Hover over the page you wish to duplicate.
- Click on Copy this page.
- Give your new page a title.
- Choose if you want to add it to the menu.
- Click Create Page to confirm.
You're redirected to the duplicated page; you can now edit its content.
Step 3 - Work on the menu
Now that you created all your content in different languages, you must set up a menu for each language.Â
Create your menu in English
- On one of your English pages, click on Add New Section
- Choose a submenu template under Other templates
- Edit the links to redirect to your pages in English
- Reorder the sections and place the menu section at the top of the page
Duplicate the English menu
When your menu in English is ready, duplicate it to all the English pages.Â
- Click Edit section in the menu section
- Click Duplicate
- Click Copy to page next to the pages you wish to duplicate the section to
- Go to the page and move the menu section to the top of the page
Create your menu in FrenchÂ
Duplicate the English menu to one of your French pages and edit the content to French. When the menu in French is ready, duplicate it on your French pages (follow the steps above).Â
