Spotlight on Olga Anna Markowska

Olga Anna Markowska is an interdisciplinary artist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist whose work moves fluidly between sound, image, and memory. Born in Poland and working internationally, her practice explores identity, emotional landscapes, and the human relationship with nature through carefully layered sonic and visual narratives.

Rooted in both music and visual art, Markowska’s work blends ambient, early music, minimalism, and avant-garde influences. She often combines electronic textures with acoustic instruments such as cello and zither, creating immersive compositions that feel intimate, atmospheric, and deeply reflective. Sound, for her, is not only musical but spatial — a medium capable of holding memory, time, and place.

Classically trained as a cellist at the State Music School in Łomża, Markowska later studied Intermedia at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk. This dual foundation continues to shape her interdisciplinary approach. Her solo releases, including the EP Thrills (2024, Kanu Kanu Recordings) and debut album ISKRA (2025, Miasmah), explore emotional memory and the subtle textures of lived experience. Earlier projects include the experimental duo Teufelsberg and collaborations with artists such as Piotr Kaliński (Hatti Vatti), Stefan Wesołowski, Olgierd Dokalski (kIRk), and the KYMATIC ensemble.

Alongside her musical practice, Markowska creates visual projects that echo similar themes of remembrance, landscape, and identity. Works such as Borderland reflect on place as both personal and historical terrain, while her installations and photographic projects examine how memory is embedded in environments and human presence. Her portfolio website brings these disciplines together, offering a cohesive view of her artistic language across sound, image, and installation.
